St CLARE’S
This visit was another ‘first’. 300 children Year 1 to Year 3 for an hour’s storytelling! I was just a tad apprehensive but everything went brilliantly and the girls were bright, lively and lots of fun.
St CLARE’S PTA
We had a full house of parents and children for ‘The Art of Storytelling.’ This comprised a PowerPoint presentation with tips on making storytelling a lively, exciting and rewarding experience. We worked both with and without books and pictures and had lots of demonstrations. The parents were wonderful, joined in with great enthusiasm, were most appreciative and really found their five to eight year–old selves during the story sessions. I think you created the best storm ever during the swallows migration section of ‘Patrick’s Birthday Message.’

The first book tour of 2018 and it will be hard to beat!
It started with a really enthusiastic and friendly welcome. I felt like a famous celebrity with children calling out from everywhere,“Hello Gailclarke!” (all one word!)
We enjoyed five fun-filled, action-packed days of presentations covering a wide variety of themes:-
- We celebrated Patrick the Parrot’s special birthday with the Tiny Tigers,
- We enjoyed the cheeky trick Mischievous Monkey played on the animals at the waterhole,
- We had a whale of a time with Cosmos as he travelled from the Antarctic to the Arctic to see polar bears and penguins,
- We learned about putting books together and
- We talked about the impact of humans on rainforests and animal species.
I was delighted with the interest, and lively participation of all the children in the Primary department aged five to eleven and amazed by their knowledge and awareness of global concerns, as well as their understanding that we all need to do something about it! The safety of our planet could not be in better hands than those of all our Patana Planet Guardians.
The Early Years (two to four-year-olds) were a joy! They participated in the Parrot Dance, listened to the story and chatted to the puppets.
A HUGE ‘Thank you’ to
- Miss Sally for making it happen and being there for so many of the presentations that I am sure she knows them by heart!
- Mr Stephen Murgatroyd for his wholehearted support and also for attending so many presentations,
- the library team whose help was fabulous – tireless, smiling and oh so efficient, and, of course,
- to the children for being their lively, vivacious and charming selves.

Patrick, Cosmos, Chameleon and the crew are beyond excited about our upcoming trip to Bangkok next week — 15-19 January. We’re really happy to be seeing our old friends from last year and making lots of new ones of all ages in the Primary section of Bangkok Patana School.
There will be five fun-filled, action-packed days with lots of topics to look at: beaches, toys, rain forests, elephants, rhyming, writing and illustrating stories and making books.
The storybook friends have already packed their bags even though there’s a whole week to go!
Here’s a photo from my trip to Patana in 2017
See you soon, Patana.

Fun, friendly and a fantastic reception for us all. The children at ASB were delightful and we enjoyed two full days of stories, workshops, games, puppets dances and parrot hugs. The kindergarten children did a wonderful parrot dance. Huge thanks to Claire Connor for her amazing organisation and help. We all had a great time!

WOW! Patrick, Cosmos and the crew have been very busy for the last two weeks!
It’s been one Book Week after another with Phuket International Academy, British International School, Kajonkiet and Head Start.
We’ve all had a fabulous time with storytelling sessions, book signings, writing workshops and making lots of new friends.
Highlights of our Book Weeks were:
Morning tea with the library assistants from Year 5 at BIS. They were well prepared with some excellent ‘questions for the author’ 🙂
A special pre-order book signing arranged but the wonderful and oh-so-organised Miss Donna.
Lots of fun and games and fabulous photographs at PIA as well as a very warm reception for Cosmos the whale puppet. Thank you dynamic Diane Therien 🙂
Workshops and storytelling sessions at Kajonkiet, a hilarious drama session with the Year 5 and 6 students and the story writing competition. Many thanks and big whale-y smiles to Nicky and all the teachers.
Thank you to all the amazing staff, students and children who made the last two weeks such FUN!
Here are some photos from the BIS pre-sale.
